Doll doctor

I only heard this term for the first time in my life a week ago. I didn’t play with dolls when I was a little girl and I had no idea that you could actually take them to a “real” doctor.

I was visiting the charming city of Vadstena with a good friend of mine when an elderly woman with grey hair and a floral-print dress approached us, eager to engage in conversation. She welcomed us to her small vintage shop. We were just browsing in search of new inspiration and there it was: a doll’s hospital! The back of the store was filled with heads, legs, torsos, eyes and arms. Some parts were pale pink, others yellowish or even creamy white. The sight was creepy and fascinating at the same time. The old lady, the “doll doctor”, talked about how people came to the shop to get their beloved dolls fixed. Even foreigners would come from other countries to leave their doll for surgery and pick it up the year after. Amazing!

Inspiration is all about passion. Passion for what you do. You can love writing and you can actually love mending and restoring dolls. If you put your heart into what you do, the result speaks for itself. The old lady was crazy about dolls and she almost made me feel as if I had missed something during my Barbie-less childhood.

Finding your true passion is a life-changing experience. Whether your enthusiasm centers around dolls or words, make sure that passion is the driving force in all you do. Quality is sure to follow.
